For Teachers by Teachers
About Us
We are TMC, Inc. teachers who have informally come together to present this TMC, Inc. Retreat and Commemoration Weekend. Although, TMC, Inc. is not currently active as an organization, this course belongs to all TMC, Inc. teachers. This is a course given by and for TMC, Inc. Teachers and Governors of the Age of Enlightenment, including those TM teachers who began teaching after the grand days of the TMC era and now share the same mission to introduce Transcendental Meditation® to people of color in their communities.
Spurred into action
A recent graduate of MUM, Theresa Golden, was surprised to learn that there was once an organization dedicated to teaching Transcendental Meditation to people of color. Once armed with this knowledge, she and Dorothy James, another meditator also unfamiliar with the original TMC, felt inspired to organize a "TMC Reunite" gathering. It was held in March 2013 in the original meeting place of the founding of TMC, in the home of long time meditator and TMC supporter, Marian Lane. At this gathering, teachers and meditators found great joy being together again. On that day many shared their gratitude to Maharishi for his profound knowledge and deep appreciation for having shared the unique TMC, Inc. experience. If there were no TMC, all of us would have felt fortunate to have TM introduced into our lives. For most of us, however, since we did have the distinct experience of being a part of TMC, Inc., that experience holds a special place in our lives.
It was timely when the TMC Reunite gathering occurred. For several months prior to that gathering, among teachers there were conversations on the desire to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of the TMC, Inc. Teachers Training Course (TTC) held in Ethiopia in 1973. The feeling generated at that "TMC Reunite" gathering sparked a greater urge for recognition of this 40th Anniversary. At a follow-up meeting and group meditation in June, the 15 teachers present agreed to move forward with commemorating the Ethiopian TTC at a teachers’ retreat or residence course. It was decided then that it would also be a time to pay tribute and honor the legacy of the work of all of the teachers of TMC.
The initial kick-off meeting for this weekend retreat and celebration was held at the home of Sibongile West. Present at this initial planning meeting were the following TMC Teachers and Governors :
